The Pick & Pack Process
Boxzooka leverages multiple varieties of pick and pack processes based on the individual client needs. Boxzooka provides a full compliment of fulfillment services at affordable rates by spreading the costs of warehousing, technology, employees and equipment across multiple clients and facilities.
Pick, Pack and Ship is a traditional process and a widely recognized method for ecommerce order fulfillment. When a customer places an order from a brand or a retailer, the fulfillment center receives those orders and stages them for processing. A systemic request to “pick” the order is generated along with other orders at Boxzooka. Pick Lists, Pick Tickets, and various digital and paper processes are followed to direct pickers on what SKU(s) to take from inventory. Those picked items are delivered to a “pack” station or area for an operator (or machine) to inspect, package and apply a shipping label. Pick, Pack and Ship.

Pick & Pack Methodologies
Boxzooka leverages several pick and pack methods to eliminate mistakes, increase efficiency, and cut costs for our retailers. Here are a few methodologies that utilize Boxzooka’s proprietary WMS technology to pick and pack products.
Piece Picking
Piece picking involves fulfilling each packing slip individually. Warehouse associates retrieve each item separately and complete the order at the packing station. Boxzooka does not often use this method as it requires intensive labor to complete for multiple large orders. However, for a small business, this method may prove to be the most straightforward.
Zone Picking
Zone picking is effective in Boxzooka’s distribution centers which are optimized within zones(areas) unique to each brand’s inventory profile. Our warehouse personnel are assigned “zones” of the warehouse and collect items in their zone. Our WMS provides multiple quality checks as each order makes it ‘s way through all the zones, it gets packed and shipped.
BATCH PICKING
Boxzooka routinely batches groups of orders to prioritize efficiency. Batch picking directs the employee with a pick cart or an electric order picker to fulfill a group of orders in one pass. This method guides our staff on the most efficient path through all the zones in the warehouse, as they can pick multiple SKUs at once from the same area and not revisit a zone twice. Orders can also be batched by many attributes including SKU type, location, packaging, dimensions, Hazmat, etc.
Wave Picking
For certain clients Boxzooka utilizes wave picking, a combination of batch picking and zone picking, to group incoming orders by a specific zone during a specific time period. Picking in waves allows workers to pick simultaneously without unnecessary traffic. This is highly efficient in our large facilities to accommodate high-volume fulfillment operations. Done properly, wave picking increases efficiency, reducing travel times and is highly accurate.
